As a Yoruba born Nigerian, The culture and music is a major part of my life and reflects in most of my music. More so in the past years, I have become more fascinated by the beauty of Yoruba melodies. I decided to put together few songs from the Yoruba repertoire and here is my interpretation of some of the melodies with a contemporary approach using just the guitar as my voice.
This is all real-time improvisation. I had just the melodies to navigate with while I re-harmonize/arrange on the go.
The answer is 23mins of sublime and mesmerizing Yoruba songs which you could enjoy to bring back nostalgic feelings or use as a tool to teach your kids some of Yoruba language through songs.
